S: Put down! Put down!
A: Is your dog named ‘putdown’?
S: Nope.
A: Did you ask your dog to put down something?
S: Nope.
S: I reminded myself to put down the ‘past’ and ‘future’.
The pain associated with the past is often caused by regret, guilt, or loss due to previous actions, lost chances, or trauma. On the other hand, future-oriented worry stems from uncertainty and the dread of bad consequences. The inability to influence future occurrences exacerbates this fear. Addressing these emotions requires a balanced engagement with the past and the future:
- Digesting previous experiences
- Taking a realistic sight of the future
- Concentrating on the current moment
The idea is not to dismiss the past or the future but to connect with both in ways that promote happiness and present-moment living.
